Cindy's Job At The Birch Street Nursing Home
It took me longer to walk to the Birch Street Nursing Home this morning because I was carrying three cans of yellow paint and one can of mauve. And my backpack was stuffed with paintbrushes and a paint tray. When I got there, the patients were already gathered in the activity room and ready to start painting the walls. Mrs. Kunkle suggested we first put down something to protect the carpet. Mr. Matthews jumped in and said we could use one of Mrs. Henley's dresses to cover the entire area, but Mr. Richards said that the carpet will be replaced in a couple of weeks anyway. I passed out paintbrushes to all the patients and opened the first can of yellow paint. Once everyone was busy at work, I slipped out to buy a box of Valentine's Day chocolates to share with the patients. When I got back, I saw that a little progress had been made on one of the walls. However, quite a bit of paint was on the carpet and Mr. Pearlman had wandered over to the window and was busy painting it yellow. I quickly grabbed a clean brush from my backpack and swapped that one for the one he was using, and let him get back to it. When we were done painting for the day, the patients enjoyed the Valentine's Day chocolates. I hope the paint isn't toxic because Mrs. Henley did not wash her hands before digging into that box.
