The head nurse at the Birch Street Nursing Home let the Sunday nurse have the holiday off, so I spent the day with the patients, playing poker and eating the cookies that were left over from yesterday. At one point, the patients began saying what they would have bought each other as gifts if they had any money and were able to leave the nursing home grounds. Mrs. Henley was happy to learn that she would have received four chocolate cakes and a cherry pie. In the late afternoon, I had the patients take down the Christmas decorations so that the head nurse will not be upset when she gets in tomorrow.
